Following Matty Healy\u2019s \u201ccontroversial conduct and remarks\u201d while performing with his band The 1975, a Malaysian festival has announced that the event has been canceled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Healy, 34, gave a statement on homosexuality, which is outlawed in Malaysia, and kissed bassist Ross MacDonald at the Good Vibes Festival on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event issued a statement on Saturday, saying, \u201cWe deeply regret to announce that the remaining schedule for Good Vibes Festival (GVF2023), planned for today and tomorrow, has been cancelled following the controversial conduct and remarks made by UK artist Matt Healy from the band The 1975.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decision was a \u201cimmediate cancellation directive\u201d from Malaysia\u2019s Ministry of Communications and Digital, according to the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe ministry has emphasized its unwavering stance against any parties that challenge, mock, or violate Malaysian laws,\u201d organizers added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe sincerely apologise to all of our ticket holders, vendors, sponsors, and partners.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Healy stated on social media that he was \u201cpulling out\u201d of the event because he did not \u201csee the point of inviting The 1975 to a country and then telling us who we can have sex with.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He did, however, say that he opted to attend the event because he did not want to disappoint his followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Healy also stated, \u201cUnfortunately, you don\u2019t get a set of loads of uplifting songs because I\u2019m f***ing furious, and that\u2019s not fair on you, because you\u2019re not a representative of your government because you\u2019re young people, and I\u2019m sure a lot of you are gay, progressive, and cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe then walked off stage, only to return later and declare, \u201cAlright, we just got banned from Kuala Lumpur, see you later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOther bands scheduled to perform throughout the weekend were Australian singer-songwriter The Kid Laroi and American rock band The Strokes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kid Laroi expressed his \u201csorry\u201d in an Instagram story after learning of the cancellation after his aircraft landed in Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Malaysia\u2019s communications minister, Fahmi Fadzil, also criticized Healy\u2019s remarks and said that he had contacted festival organizers about the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Media stated that The 1975 had been banned by a committee that monitors international musicians performing in Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Healy was named ally of the year at the 2019 Diva Awards for his support of the LGBT+ community in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Previously released video shows the frontman kissing a male crowd safety worker mid-performance while singing in Denmark and a male fan in Dubai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2019, he tweeted, \u201cThank you Dubai, you were so amazing.\u201d I don\u2019t think we\u2019ll be permitted back because of my \u2018behavior,\u2019 but know that I love you and will do the same thing again if given the chance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
